The Japan National Championship has been decided! Katsuhiro Mori has been crowned their champion, and he will lead a national team that includes long time standout Tsuyoshi Ikeda. That means Japan will once again have one of the more competitive teams at the World Championships.

Mori wins for the second time in his career. In addition, he has a World Champion title on his resume and is in an elite class of players who have gone back-to-back-to-back in World Top 8's. A suspension saw him forcibly removed from competitive Magic for a time, but he returned with a vengeance and has stayed out of DCI trouble since then.

He opted to play Monored in the Standard portion with a heavy helping of first-turn Goblin Guide powering him through the Quarters, Semis, and Finals of the event. Here's his decklist:

2  Arid Mesa

15  Mountain

4  Scalding Tarn

4  Teetering Peaks

4  Ball Lightning

4  Goblin Guide

4  Hell's Thunder

4  Hellspark Elemental

2  Kargan Dragonlord

3  Burst Lightning

3  Earthquake

4  Lightning Bolt

2  Quenchable Fire

4  Searing Blaze

1  Staggershock

Sideboard:

2  Basilisk Collar

4  Cunning Sparkmage

2  Dragon's Claw

2  Flame Slash

2  Quenchable Fire

3  Siege-Gang Commander
